Madari @ Cokestudio India Redefines Sufi
We’ve all listen to the morning ‘fused’ sufi music. So we had the Junoon Band from Pakistan, Kailaish Kher from India and the list can go on. Then came Cokestudio Pakistan in 2008 and changed it all. Sufi music was given an altogether new look. Rohail, of couse a music maestro, litarally re-wrote the concept of doing live music, while fusing eastern classic and western rock together. CS Pakistan brought out tracks like ‘Allah Hu’ (Saeen Zahoor & Ali Zafar), that still manages to send shivers down my spine, brought out Mundari from Ustad Sami, an unchallengable tell tale fable in form of music, Abida Parveen and the list goes on.
In the mean while in a naive approach to sell BollyMusic to the world, finally CS India was introduced with Leslie Lewis. It was good, but it was like any other BollyMusic that would come and go.
This year brings Clinton in CS India. And the my-o-my the tables have changed!!! Madari, an old track, remade by Clinton, made its place charts and has unauthoritatively claimed that sufi just cannot just be limitted with East Classic alone. Western rock can bring the flavor if done it right. And Clinton has done it right. While Kakkar is still flamboyant in the industry, Clinton has done a great job. Guess it is authoritatively safe to say ‘Rohail, now you’ve an equal competition to deal with :)’.
Great job Clinton, as always of course!!
